Abstract	This paper describes the design and functionality of the Social Web Cockpit. The Social Web Cockpit is an assistant that supports users while traversing the World Wide Web. It provides social awareness and it supports collaboration, notification of interesting Web pages, collaborative construction of community knowledge, and the development of a community vocabulary. The cockpit aims at turning the World Wide Web from an interaction medium into a cooperation tool, for the active support and self-organisation of communities.
